BFT access control installation in Frisco typically runs between $450 and $1,200 installed, depending on whether you’re adding a keypad and receiver to an existing BFT operator or replacing a failed control board inside the unit. We carry BFT-compatible boards, receivers, and keypads on the truck for most Rigel, Deimos, and Phobos series operators, and we can usually complete the install same day once we confirm the model. Most Frisco homeowners call us after punching a code for the hundredth time and getting nothing, or when the gate stopped responding to the remote that worked yesterday. Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts the code, gate doesn’t move. The keypad is transmitting, but the receiver board isn’t relaying the command to the motor. We see this weekly. The relay on the board wears out, and the code entry looks like it worked when it didn’t. A fresh board fixes it the same day.
- Intermittent remote range, worse on hot afternoons. The RF receiver module drifts with temperature. In Frisco summers, a receiver that works at 8 a.m. can fail at 3 p.m. The solid-state components on BFT receiver boards run hot, and once the range shrinks to under 20 feet, the part is done.
- Gate opens when another neighbor’s remote is pressed. The receiver has lost its rolling-code sync and is defaulting to a broad signal. A receiver stuck in this failure mode will let anyone within 50 feet trip your gate. Fixing it is a board replacement and a code re-learn.
- Keypad backlight flickers or goes dark in cold weather. The solder joints on the keypad’s backlight circuit crack and re-connect with temperature swings. The keypad may still work, but the connection is degrading. This specific failure pattern shows up more in areas with rapid cooling after sunset.
- Operator works manually but ignores every wireless command. The control board’s receiver hardware has separated from the main logic board. Boxed from the factory as one assembly, but with vibration and age the connection fails. Replacement is the only honest fix.

What you can safely do: check the breaker, re-seat any loose keypad wiring you can see, and note whether the gate opens from the manual release. If you bridge those, you can kill the new board on first power-up. Five to eight years on the receiver board, and that’s shorter than coastal climates because the sustained heat in Frisco summers accelerates capacitor aging.
