Linear Access Control Installation: The Frisco Owner’s Guide

Linear access control installation in Frisco typically runs between $380 and $900 installed, depending on whether you need a simple keypad replacement or a full system with antenna, controller, and receiver wiring. We stock Linear-compatible parts on our trucks and complete most access control swaps the same day we arrive, because the failure is usually one component, not the whole system. Most Frisco homeowners discover the problem the same way: the keypad lights up but the gate won’t move, or a programmed code stops working overnight, or the range on a remote drops from 50 feet to “standing at the gate post, waving it.”

Tell me what the gate is doing, and I will tell you what it costs to fix it. That’s how Adrian Vance approaches every access control call, and it’s why this page exists: to name the part, match it to your Linear model, and give you a written price before anyone picks up a tool.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear access control equipment covers a wide span, and the Frisco installs we service most often break into three groups. The first is the MegaCode series (MC-MNT, MGT, and the familiar DNT00090 transmitters), which still runs plenty of older gate operators around Frisco’s 2010-era subdivisions. The second is the AM3 Plus and APeX series, which work on both swing and slide operators, and the third is Linear’s newer intercom and telephone-entry units popping up on newer properties in Phillips Creek Ranch and The Trails.

The compatibility gotcha we see regularly: a MegaCode receiver will not talk to an AM3 controller without a bridge, and the wire count changes from 3 conductors to 5. If a homeowner buys a used keypad from an online marketplace and it won’t pair, the radio frequency is usually the mismatch (318 MHz versus 390 MHz). Check the silver label on the back of the unit; the frequency and model prefix are printed there. When we install, we photograph that label so the record is in your file, not just in your memory.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for Linear specifically: we stock Linear OEM keypads and receivers because the weather sealing and terminal spacing on aftermarket clones is inconsistent, and a Texas storm season will find that out before the next spring. For entry keypads and transmitters, OEM is worth the extra $25 to $45. For mounting brackets and sun shields, aftermarket is fine.

Signs Your Linear Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Linear Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • The keypad accepts a code but the gate doesn’t move. The relay inside the keypad has burned contacts, or the controller board’s receiver isn’t passing the signal. We test both with a meter before replacing either.
  • A remote only works within 10 feet of the operator. The receiver antenna in the Linear controller has corroded, or the antenna wire was pinched during an earlier repair. This one’s a $60 to $95 fix rather than a full keypad replacement.
  • Codes need to be re-entered every few weeks. Linear MegaCode systems store codes in memory that can clear when a surge hits or when the ground at the operator is loose. In Frisco’s lightning season, that’s May through September, this is the most common call we get.
  • The intercom rings but the audio is garbled or dies mid-sentence. The cable run from the road to the controller is picking up water, or an original-run 22-gauge wire has finally failed. We loop-test the line and replace the run if needed.
  • Two remotes work, a third doesn’t, even after reprogramming. The system has hit its transmitter memory limit. Older Linear receivers cap out around 40 to 60 stored remotes. We’ll read the count from the controller and tell you plain whether it’s the limit or a dead transmitter.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what Linear access control installation costs in Frisco, written out the way we’d put it on your invoice before the first screw comes out:

  • Replacement keypad (MegaCode or AM3-compatible): $380 - $525 installed, including programming of up to 25 user codes.
  • Receiver swap and antenna repair: $260 - $410, depending on whether the antenna wire needs a new run.
  • Full telephone-entry / intercom installation: $650 - $900, including new cable from the pedestal to the operator when the old run fails a loop test.
  • Add a new transmitter or key fob while we’re on site: $35 - $70 each.

The range comes down to two things: the condition of the existing wiring and whether we have to drill and mount a new pedestal. Every price above is parts and labor together, written down before we start, and agreed to before any work happens. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1, and we don’t treat it as a talking point; we treat it as the reason you know what the job costs.

All Linear access control installations from Vance Gate Repair Frisco are covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the system fails within one year, we make it right at no additional charge, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

Linear access control installation is low-voltage work, which makes it safer than a lot of gate repairs, but it still involves wiring that carries 12 or 24 volts from an operator that draws household current. The danger isn’t the keypad; it’s opening the operator cabinet and working near the incoming power without checking the breaker. If you’re comfortable with a meter and you understand normally-open versus normally-closed relay wiring, swapping a Linear keypad is a one-hour project with two wires. If the problem is inside the operator, on the control board, or anywhere near the power supply, call us instead. Half the access control jobs we fix in Frisco started as a DIY attempt where the breaker was never cut and the board took a surge.

If you can tell us the model number from the back of the keypad and the symptom, we can usually give you an exact price on the phone. Call (940) 290-7996 and a live person answers, any hour, every day of the week.
